Name That Autocomplete is a game played on BBLiveShow and NSFW. In this game, players are given clues to a person's identity based on the autocomplete options presented by Google. The winner is the person who is the first to correctly guess the identity of the person.

How to Play

To play Name That Autocomplete, the host of the game must type the name of a fairly well known person into the search field on Google. Without submitting the search, Google will present commonly searched phrases which begin with the person's name. The host needs to collect these autocomplete phrases and order them from least to most helpful.

Round 1

The host will present a hint as to who the person is and then reveal the autocomplete phrases one at a time in order from least to most helpful. When one of the players thinks he or she knows who the person is, they say, "I know it!" The host stops and gives the player the opportunity to answer. If they answer correctly, they get 1 point. If they answer incorrectly, the other player gets to see all the remaining autocomplete phrases and has the opportunity to answer to win 1 point.

Round 2

In this round, point values increase (to 1,000,000 points) and the game changes to a "Name That Tune" format (but not actually "Name That Tune" because that would be copyright infringement or something) in which the players bid how many autocompletes they need in order to guess the person.

The host will present a hint as to who the person is and then accept bids from players. When one player doesn't think they can name it in fewer phrases than another, they tell the other player to "Name That Autocomplete!" The autocomplete phrases are then revealed one at a time in order from least to most helpful. ("Gimme" phrases such as "wiki", "bio", "quotes", "twitter", "facebook", and "myspace" do not count and are revealed for free.)

Records

  • Alex Albrecht holds the record for correctly guessing with the least number of autocompletes. He correctly guessed John Kerry based on the hint and one autocomplete phrase: "cane".
